Projects We have Launched

COMPLETE OUR TWO LOW CO2 FRAM SURVEYS TO CELEBRATE CLIMATE ACTION

We would like to create a positive approach in Framlingham towards climate change, given that our community is now directly experiencing this growing environmental crisis. We feel a collective celebration of all our efforts so far is needed to help people see that they are not alone in this change towards living more sustainably in Framlingham.

These two Greener Fram surveys are a positive way of increasing public discussion and support for a range of actions aiming to reduce emissions and make life more sustainable.

We need information from residents, businesses, and local organisations so we can celebrate publicly what people in Framlingham are already doing in this effort to develop resilience and a low carbon lifestyle.

We plan to publish the survey results at a celebratory event in the Autumn, when all participants will receive “We ❤️ Low CO2” badges and signs, leaflets and posters promoting their sustainable activities.

LOW CO2 FRAM? HOUSEHOLD SURVEY

WILD ABOUT FRAM? ENVIRONMENTAL PROJECTS

Would you like to take part in bio-blitz surveys and other environmental data collection?

We will be launching a range of surveys in various locations around Framlingham very soon. We are just waiting to hear about our grant application for all the survey equipment needed.

If you would like to help on our  environmental projects – please let us know and we can send you the details as soon as we are ready to get started.

Low CO2 Fram?

This is a community outreach and research project celebrating how much action there is in Framlingham to reduce CO2 emissions.

We will start by collecting data on the range of sustainable living initiatives already being done by local retailers, businesses, community organisations and groups.

This will be followed by celebratory events and activities, and we will publish leaflets and produce stickers to display or hand out wherever possible.

We will keep a record of the data collected so that comparisons can be drawn in the future (especially in 2030 – a milestone date just 5yrs from now)

Greener Fram Larder

Pageant Place is the location of weekly distribution of food “too good to waste” collected from local stores.

We aim to be there every Saturday morning from 10am – 11am.

The savings per kilo of CO2 emissions and water are substantial.

Food is available free for anybody in Framlingham.

Wild About Fram?

There is growing evidence of severe loss of habitats for wildlife in rural communities.

This project will carry out a program of Biodiversity Blitz Surveys to allow us to understand the current state of biodiversity in Framlingham and how this affects the health of our natural environment.

The surveys willcover different areas of Framlingham, eg. meadows, parks, gardens, green verges, housing estates, the mere, the river and its tributaries, woodland and hedges. We will use accepted scientific evaluation methods. This will  be an ongoing annual program to keep a data record over time.

Homes For Nature

A community project making wooden homes for birds, bats, bees and hedgehogs. These are given out to Fram residents for free at events which include engaging talks by wildlife lovers.

"Keep the Heat" in Fram

A Team will be assessing properties heat emissions with a thermal imaging camera. You will be able to see how and where heat is being lost from your home. This is a key step towards reducing your  energy use. Let us know if you would like to sign up for this assessment. We aim to do the surveys in the evenings in January.

Splash of Colour

We are planting and growing wild flowers on a number of grass verges in Framlingham to provide nectar for pollinating insects. We get the seeds and bulbs, obtain permission for each site, and develop an annual maintenance plan. Great for bees and insects, and creates welcome splashes of colour for Fram.

Working With Others

Fram Community Garden

This is now a thriving separate entity with its own a core team. The Community Garden was originally setup On Pig Meadow in 2012 in partnership with Fram College and with support from the Town Council.

Any excess produce was donated to the Free Food Share Shed for all to enjoy.

Fram Free Recycling

The concept of Swap and Mend was born and in April 2014 with monthly events and a team of skilful volunteers. As a result of Covid this had to change, and is now a thriving swapping group on Facebook.

Just post a picture of an unwanted item and someone is sure to snap it up!

Contributing to the Town Council Projects

Framlingham Neighbourhood Plan Review. It is important that measures and policies which aim to mitigate against the effects of climate change are included in the official plan for Framlingham. A Greener Fram member will attend consultation meetings.

Framlingham Flood Resilience and Recovery Group. Several Greener Fram members are also part of this working group, contributing to the discussions and planning following the storm Babet in October 2023.
